At least 7 killed and 15 wounded in today’s Twin Suicide Attacks in Mogadishu.

At least five people killed and 15 others wounded after twin suicide attacks targeted an expensive hotel popular with Somali politicians and foreigners in Somali Capital- Mogadishu. The Hotel locates just meters away from Halne military complex and Mogadishu International Airport “ Adan Ade”.  Alshabab has claimed the responsibility of the attack.

“This was the most powerful suicide attack that Mogadishu ever witnessed. Fortunately,  at the time of incident there was less traffic and that saved a lot of lives” said Bandir Region Spokesman Abdifatah Ahmed Halane.

However, Halane declined to say the exact number of causalities, saying they about to verify the death toll.

        Giving Pathway

One of the cars approached to security checkpoint and exploded instantly. The second one, a big truck managed to pass the checkpoint amid chaos “a small car approached us and after exchanging few words he detonated the car, I think he was giving pathway the second truck” said one of security personal who survived the attack.

Somali Foreign ministry condemned the attack saying it was another reminder of the evil that lives amongst us “We condemn the evil act of terrorism in #Mogadishu today. Killing innocent people evidence of terrorists moral bankruptcy & inhumanity” a Tweet from the account of Somali Foreign minister, Abdislam Hadliye.

“Entire neighborhood came to rubbles and I have not seen any of the attacks in Mogadishu leaving such destruction” said one of the residents whose home seen damages from the explosion.

  In July, last year, Ex- Somali Mp Salah Badbado, who defected to Alshabab detonated a truck to the same spot, which killed at least 10 private security guards.

Analysis: National Consultative forum decision to expand Upperhouse members.

The National Consultative Forum has concluded two weeks meeting in Mogadishu after-midnight on Sunday. The meeting was also presented by the UN and members of  International community and discussed key topics. The stakeholders agreed:

1.     Expanding Upperhouse members from 54 to 72.

2.     Allowing nullified and disqualified candidates to re-contest again.

3.     Regional state leaders will nominate the new added seats for the upper house and Federal President Hassan Sheikh will pass them by decree.

4.     Lowerhouse MPs should be sworn on 27. Dec.

                              Analysis

The meeting was one most important gathering for NLF since its birth. Regional States and Federal Government leadership unlike previous times were in same page. The Forum chastised dispute Resolution mechanism commission for their decision to disqualified and nullified 11seats. The UN, and International Community has taken strong stance not to let the National consultative forum make the work of Dispute Resolution Commission go in vain. One surprise decision by the forum is the expansion of Upperhouse to 18members. Somali provisional Constitution clearly states that Upperhouse members should be 54 members. 

These members will be equally distributed to 18 geographical regions of the country. The overnight decision to ignore the stipulation of the constitution and public opinion is manifestation of last four years work of Somali leadership.

The country has no active political parties, working judicial System, or political institution that can challenge the decisions of the Forum.  UN Special representative and some handful western countries left to make meaningful objections. We do not still have official response from UN or the American Embassy in Mogadishu. One predictable response is that if they accept the extra seats , they may challenge the methods. Elections should be uniform not arbitrary.

Another Development is that National consultative Forum still asserts to reversal the decisions of election commissions regarding 11 seats. most of disregarded eleven seats holder are either members of regional state leaders inner cycle or the Federal leadership. The Forum is committed to design elections of these seats in way of that current belligerent holder will be bound it again.

Somali Youth Entrepreneurship Conference kicks off in Mogadishu

Somali youth and sports minister, deputy Mogadishu Mayor, representatives from the UN, Pan African   Youth Union and Somali Young entrepreneurs attended the conference today in Mogadishu.

Conference agenda includes addressing challenges as well as the opportunities that loom for Somali Young Social entrepreneurs today.  Somali Youth vision- an organization that advocates youth development has organized the conference.

Somali youth minister Mohammed Abdullahi  Nouh and deputy mayor  of Mogadishu Jellani Nour  Ikar gave opening speech at conference .  Both officials encouraged youth to boost entrepreneurial spirit in agriculture, fishing and small factories sectors.

“Somali Government is delighted to see Somali youth organizing such conferences and let me emphasis here that the only way we can end poverty is to be a productive society “said Somali youth and sports minister Nouh.

Key thematic issues of the conference includes:

·         Key challenges for investing  in young  people innovations

·         Building relationship between young entrepreneurs and big corporation in the country.

·         Barriers and obstacles of creating young business Union associations and networks.

·         Developing national polices that encourages young entrepreneurs.

The conference is the first in its kind to be held in Somalia since the collapse of Somali central government in early 1990s.

Sharif Hassan answers the call and declares candidacy

In a highly waited event in the Southwest State of Somalia’s capital-Baidoa, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan declared his candidacy on Sunday for Somali’s presidential elections in 2016.

In a brief speech at the event, the candidate who also remains the state president said he listened and accepted the voices of South west state residents who asked him to run for presidency in the elections this year.

“Answering the advice of the state residents, Iam hereby to declare my intentions to run for the presidency in this year’s elections” said Sharif Hassan Adan.

Analysis

Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan, known his nickname by the public Sharif Sakin [The Sharp one] is one of the heavy weight politicians in the country. Former Federal Parliament Speaker in two different terms, finance minister, a star in Asmara Group “Liberation Movement” which engaged armed struggle after the Ethiopian invasion of Somalia in 2007. Many political analysts regard him a master in Somali politics and formidable force in this year’s elections in Somalia. This year, he has particular mission to accomplish. And if he succeeds that mission, it means a political earthquake in Somalia. Since the independence his clan used occupy Parliament speaker-ship as share of Somali politics. This time he wants to end that norm. A test that if he passes will grant him to be either the next prime minister or the president of Somalia. Furthermore, the incumbent president Hassan Sheikh Mahamoud campaign dealt in blow by the move of Sharif. Sharif has now more options than any other candidate. 

If he passes the first test, then the best option for him is to drop the presidency and seek for premiership. But if he fails to pass the test then the person he who throws his weight will win the election most probably. At  last, sharif Sakin arguably- the man of the show in Somali politics this years. Calculative, clever, and master of the politics of survival.

Intelligence Blunder Leads Americans to inflict large Casualties to Galmudug State Forces

Coordinated over night attack killed at least 14 Galmudug state soldiers on Tuesday night. The attack took place 14km to east of Galkio town. Puntland Paramilitary secret service and suspected American gunships attack a covey of Galmudug state soldiers. Both, Galmudug and Puntland confirmed the incident.

Galmudug State has accused the tragedy to Puntland PIS forces and American planes

“9 Puntland PIS vehicles and one American Plane attacked our soldiers. The two cars were destroyed and soldiers were killed” said Lieutenant Hassan Farah Karshe of Galmudug state.

Duran Said Elmi-A soldiers who survived the attack said that at least 9 pickup vehicles full of soldiers and military planes have attacked them “ at the beginning we sighted military vehicles approaching towards us; we started our cars and tried to withdraw, but we were attacked from air. They used against us the same cruise missile, which killed Adan Hashi Araw [Alshabab  top commander killed by US airstrike In Dusamareb town of Galgadud region in 2007]” Said, Elmi

Lieutenant Hassan Farah karshe accused American for working on basis of wrong intelligence “Americans were operating on the bases of wrong information. They used against us the same weapon used against Daish (ISIS). We want Americans to come forward and pay the compensations for the killed people and properties” said Karshe.

Pictured from attacked site showed at least two painted Galmudug state military vehicles destroyed and riddled with machine gun bullets.

Putland Said the target of the attack was Alshabab officials who were hiding the site. Americans are yet to comment the matter, but the Puntland paramilitary PIS that executed the attack is supported by Americans

Meanwhile, Tens of angry residents gathered the center of Galkio calling anti American expressions and burning down the American flag.

The New Sheikh Sharif set to Race for Somali Presidency

Former Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed announced on Monday in the Somali capital Mogadishu his candidacy to Somali presidency in this year’s general elections.

After four year in abroad, which he dedicated learning leadership and foreign languages [English], Sharif told large cheering audience- mainly his supporters that he is back with new “Blood and vigor”.

After hours of Somali classic songs, traditional plays and key speeches from clan elders, religious scholars, women, and youth Sharif stood there with one of his wives.

It was not coincidence that it was the same podium he stood four years ago when he campaigned for second term.  A dream that did not come true. This time, though, faces were missing and new faces were starring.

As usual, Sharif at the begging captivated the audience with his eloquence.  Today, though, the foreign expressions in his speech were not Arabic, rather “Technocratic”. Did the man’s orientations changed to 180 degree?  “When I became a president in 2008, I was less experienced and the country  were in complete anarchy, now, I gained more experience, if you bestow me the leadership of the country again, I will use the power of “Technocrats” to fix the country’s problems” said Sharif.

He proceeded to read his political manifesto:
